| Mrs. Kitty in progress by Mr.DomDom |
I wanted to do this forever! When I read about Foodie Face Plates over at A Beautiful Mess I was reminded on that project that I had in mind. Most of our porcelain is simply white. I wanted to give them a good amount of color for a really long time now. We have some nicer ones back from when I worked as a porcelain decal designer, but they are no way as whimsical as the ones I did by hand today. Plus: it´s really really simple. I used PORCELAIN painter from Marabu. The nice thing about them is that the paint is dishwasher safe without oven fixation.Just let it sit for 24 hours after you finished your drawings. The pen works smoothe and the colors are wonderful, some even contain glitter.

| I love patterns! |
The second plate is for Mr.DomDom and as we both love the game Katamari, I decided to put the Little Prince onto a soup plate. The quote comes from The King Of The Universe. I really like the humour of the game. If you don´t know it already, be sure to check it out!

It´s always better to get a concept of what you actually want to draw onto the plates. Make a scribble before you start out. You can also take a very soft pencil (like a 3B) and draw the design onto your piece just to be on the safe side. The paint dries really fast, so if you make any mistake, be sure to keep a wet tissue handy, so you can wipe it off instantly. If you wait too long the color won´t come off at all. I hope you get to embellish your own porcelain a bit! Be sure to show me the results when you are done. :)
5 things I am thankful for today:
- porcelain markers! What a wonderful invention!
- having a huge chocolate ice-cream drink with whip cream during a clients meeting
- getting 2 new mechanical pencils (one of which is pink). I´m addicted!
- spicy chili con carne for lunch kept me warm for the rest of the day
- the feeling that autumn is getting closer and closer
colorful warm and loving hugs to you,

Your illustrations are so cute! I've gotta get the stuff to make these...like now! :D
ReplyDeleteWow, this is sooooo cool! I wish I had your artistic talent...I would totally do this! You should sell these on Etsy!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I've been trying to find porcelain markers in Aus, might be time to suck it up and just grab some from overseas. Looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mindi! The pens are awesome, I can´t wait to get home and do some more!!! :)
ReplyDeleteLisa: It´s all about starting out somewhere. Drawing is a fine motor skill, all you need to do is practise and make baby steps. :) It´ll come to you. Patterns are a very nice starting point. I´m planning to open an etsy shop, but I´ll have to figure out some better shipping conditions first. Oh Austria, not enough sellers here for a discount...
Indie Thrifter: This looks pretty nice here on ebay: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Curtisward-Ltd/Porcelain-Glass-Paint-Pens-/_i.html?_fsub=2208144015
They have more colors than here in Vienna, maybe I´ll check them out soon too! :)
