The Story Of The Twins. Or: The Power Of Your Thoughts

Renee thinks therefore
Renee thinks therefore by Wonderlane

Today, on my regular way to Vienna: The train was coming to a halt. I saw this girl, she came up the stairs, tried to reach the train on time, then stopped, turned around and walked back to the stairs. In a very urgent and stressed way she gestured towards somebody to hurry up. The person running up the stairs was her twin sister. They looked the same.
Only one small difference: One was blonde, the other red haired. But apart from that they both looked the same. Same eyes, same nose, same shape of body. Yet they couldn't have been more different. It didn't take a psychic to see that the red haired girl was completely unfriendly, unhappy, unrested. She was mad at the world and mad at herself and right now pretty mad at her sister. While the red haired girl was furious and crazy about the fact that they have obviously missed the train, her sister looked totally relaxed. Like "Oh, well, it obviously wasn't meant to be." The blonde girl smiled, even though she might not be on time. She didn´t run, she didn´t break into a fight with her sister (what could have easily been possible, because her sister wasn´t really treating her in a friendly way, screaming and all.) I have never seen two people looking so much alike, yet creating such a different emotional response within me.

Who do you think is happier? I guess you know. They both grew up in the same surroundings, had the same parents, the same upbringing and yet they turned out to be so different. This was one of the moments where it became very obvious: your thoughts determine the way you see the world. Your thoughts create your reality. Every single second. In every situation. You yourself are the master of your own world. It's up to you to choose between heaven or hell.

Become calm. Don´t let yourself be stressed by others. Not even your own sister. Not your own family. Not your own friends. Not strangers surrounding you. Do not pick up emotional baggage that is not yours. Give it back. It does not belong to you, it does not belong with you. You are the master of your own thoughts. You choose happiness. Or you choose sadness. You choose to smile. Or you choose to frown. You are the only one responsible for your action and attitude. What will you do?

5 things I am grateful for today:
  • my big and delicious breakfast of cereals. Crazily addicted to oatmeal!
  • somehow managing to fullfill so many tasks within one day.
  • not having a mad twin sister
  • knowing that I´ll have a wonderful dream tonight. I kind of know when I´ll be able to influence my own dreams. Does that happen to you too?
  • the wonderful photos of Tokyo, that Hello Sandwich always posts on her twitter account.

Have a wonderful tuesday!

  2. Reminds me of the proverb: "As man thinketh in his heart, so is he." A beautiful thought to ponder. Thanks Natalie!
