The Best Alarm App: UNIQLO Wake Up

The sad news is: I did not get the apartment. Why? The landlady decided that she would rather refurbish the whole flat before having another inspection for everyone. Making my rental offer invalid. Besides that she will furnish the apartment. So I cannot even bring in my own ideas. I´m happy though that I did not get to sign the contract. Thank God she started acting strange now and not when I had already moved in!

The good news is: Since I will be commuting for a little bit longer, I wanted to make my mornings more enjoyable. This is how I stumbled upon the UNIQLO Wake Up App.

UNIQLO is a is a Japanese casual wear designer, manufacturer and retailer. They are especially famous for their UNIQLOCK widget and screensaver, where they combine dancing and fashion. They call it the Music-Dance-Clock in which four girls are dancing freestyles similar to ballet , with background music composed by one of my all time favorite artists: Fantastic Plastic Machine.

The website of the App gives you a nice preview of what you can expect: The app displays the current weather and temperature after you set your location through either GPS or a location dropdown menu.

The alarm music changes according to the weather and reads out the time, day of the week, and the weather. You can choose between English and Mandarin Chinese and the female voice is quirky and sweet. I love how she kind of sings everything to me.

You can share the time, weather, and temperature of when they wake up on Facebook, Twitter, RenRen, and Weibo. This information is displayed in the WORLD WAKE UP part of the app. (which is pretty neat, if you ask me. I spent at least 15 minutes today looking at everyone´s tweets and updates. Oooh, good morning Antje from Norway, it´s pretty cold, huh?) The app background changes according to the day of the week. Plus: It´s free!

If you have become as obsessed with the music (was co-written by 51st annual Grammy nominee Cornelius (Keigo Oyamada) and Yoko Kanno) and the very mori girl-like videos, then I strongly suggest that you download the screensaver.

I hope to have sweetened your mornings too and in case you asked yourself: No, I do not get money for this. ^____^ I just like to share nice things with you!

5 things I am grateful for today:
  • Seeing old friends from the time as I worked in the theatre business.
  • Watching the UNIQLO app on my iPad for 2 hours straight and still getting to see new clips and new music. All the dancing inspired me to get some ballet lessons when I move back to Vienna.
  • Looking at deers happily jumping loaded with energy. Happy animals!
  • Finding inspiring links from Leni on my facebook timeline.
  • Going to see two new apartments tomorrow! Wish me luck!

Happy Wednesday!

  1. I bought some amazing clothes at UNIQLO on my birthday trip to Singapore, it's such a cool brand that I'm not even that surprised to hear they have a cool app as well! Too bad I don't have an iPhone...
