Life Recently: Taking Big Steps

I has been a very tough week. I don´t even know where to start. As I sit back and observe my own patterns, it feels like I have been living like a blind person up til now. I feel like I have missed out so much magic by letting my ego rule. It´s not that I fight with myself and think that I am a horrible person (though that sometimes happens…), but rather generally growing much more aware of the impact that my words and actions have on others. I plan on going back to vegetarian, as I do not plan to cause any more suffering. One big thing and source of this thought has been Halcyon´s tip for Burning Man which said "Leave no trace."

I think that this is the least you can do for this planet. Leave no trace. Do not destroy more than you need to. If I cannot manage to make this world a better place, I at least should not make it worse. Eating animals causes suffer. I cannot and will not try to tell others what to do. But I go and shine the light and if anyone else feels inspired to follow, what more could I hope for? Which brings me back to Byron Katie´s video:

If you mean it, walk it. That´s much more attractive. So this is what I´ll do now. I will still be giving out advice if you need it. (That´s what my formspring box is here for, waiting for you.) But I will rather start here with a more private journey, devoted to my daily discoveries, away from the shoulds & woulds.

The next big thing is that I finally have an apartment. Signed contract and everything. It´s mine. My little hiding place. It will still take some weeks until I can finally move in, but I feel bliss all over.

This post might seem a bit unorganized (I know it is!), but I finished working at 2am today and I´m very tired. Film shootings at night are so exciting, especially if you get to see old friends again. Everything felt like a giant family celebration, except that there were cameras, costumes, make-up and spotlights included. It´s amazing how the universe manages to bring people together and makes them feel connected instantly. Every moment felt like a warm hug, lots of laughter and smiles included.

So, as you are sitting in front of your screen, let me tell you that I am sorry for not being around so much lately and also let me thank you from the bottom of my heart. The internet is an endless space and yet you somehow found your way here to read these lines. Thank you so much. It´s an amazing honor. This blog journey has been so rewarding to me and I really do appreciate every single one of the loving comments and emails that I find in my inbox or on this blog. You have no idea what they mean to me.

Have a very good day/night! Thank you!

XOXO,

  1. You are a light to this world, Natalie. Every time I read your words, I feel uplifted and inspired. Friendship knows no bounds, not even distance. So it's wonderful to hear you're doing well.

And I wish you luck on your vegetarian and compassionate journey. I'm trying to be more compassionate in my life, too - but I frequently get anemia due to vegetable allergies. So I'm trying to find ethical meat - and I am grateful to have some great farms nearby.

Change is a wonderful thing - and I am so happy you found a haven to base your life from. :) Keep growing, keep changing, keep Being. Because you're fabulous.

  3. It always makes me happy to read your blog entries. :) Your plans sound wonderful and big, I wish you so much luck with everything you plan to do in the (near) future!

The video is really touching, thanks for sharing. <3

Anyway, I am really excited to see some more photos of your appartement soon – or maybe even in real life? ^.^

Also, I just wanted to let you know that you are a wonderful person. Never forget that. We all make some mistakes sometimes – but that is part of a learning process. We need to learn in our life – even bad experiences. Don’t let those get you down.
Life always offers you another chance to go the right way. <3 The world is a wonderful place – we shall never forget that! ^^

  4. Natalie, your plans sound fantastic and I'm very happy that you are becoming a vegetarian! It's so rewarding to cause no suffering. I took the step from vegetarian to vegan a few months ago and love it! If everyone tries to life up to leaving no trace on this earth that would be a huge step! I'm excited to see some pics of your new apartment and wish you all the best! You are such a sweet person!

  6. Thank you so much, Sonja! I need to make a good diet plan for this since I really suffer from anemia quite easily. How do you manage to go vegan? I figure it´s really difficult since there are so many products that contain milk. I really appreciate every tip that you have. :) You are a wonderful and sweet person too!!!!

  7. You need to visit!!!!! I really struggle with making mistakes and not being hard on myself. It´s funny because I really don´t care when others make mistakes, I see it as a natural process of life. But when I do them myself.....really hard....so thank you for lifting me up, I really need to see things more realistic and allowing myself to be human. Sometimes mistakes are the best things that can happen to you. ^_____^

  8. Thank you!!!! Yes, younger siblings are a big reminder of our own impact. I really want to be somebody that my younger brother can look up to, when peer pressure should come up.

  9. This post was so inspiring! It really brings joy to my heart to hear that more people are caring for the world, and trying their best to not bring any more suffering. I hope that your journey being a vegetarian goes great, and if you have any tips I would gladly take them (I'm trying to be one myself)! Good luck with the apartment, I'd love to see some pictures! ^-^

  10. Awwww, oh my God, Melissa, that is so very nice of you! Yes, indeed, friendship knows no limits. (*huuuuug*)
Vegetable allergies sounds thought. What are you allergic to?

  11. yes, of course you should read a lot about nutrition etc. so that you still get enough iron and not become anemic! Food which contains lots of iron and which you should eat regularly are:
    -algae (hello veggie-Sushi)
-melasse (or "Zuckerübensirup" I eat it daily, mixed with my cereals, on bread, in cake instead of white sugar)
-grains & corns (e.g. oats, millet, wheat)
    -dried fruits (e.g. apricots)
-green veggies (e.g. spinach, kale etc.)
    -legumes (e.g. lentils, beans, peas)
-pumpkin seeds, almonds & nuts in general
    -sesame seeds
.soy products like tofu and soy beans
    -sunflower seeds
    -all things "whole wheat"
    -wheat germ

My way to veganism was a long one: Two years ago I contributed in Lush's vegan week and dismissed milk and yoghurt after that. But I still loved cheese and ate eggs. After a while I learned more about the cruelty in the dairy and egg industry and realized that I was cheating myself with bad excuses about why I was vegetarian but still ate dairy and eggs. So I became a vegan at home, meaning that in my kitchen I only prepared vegan food but at restaurants or at parties I still eat vegetarian food including dairy and eggs. I thoought it would be too difficult to be a "real" vegan and I was afraid that my parents, boyfriend etc. would not accept it. This seems really inconsistent, right? So after a while I figured out that it is weird to be an "at home vegan" and since a few month I'm a "full" vegan:) Of course, you have to check the ingredients on packaged food in the supermarket, but I love to buy unpacked whole foods and prepare a lot of stuff at home. You discover a lot of foods which you never thought of before and there are a lot of delicious alternatives to cow's milk like coconutmilk, oatmilk, almondmilk etc.

Wow, sorry for writing so much but I'm really proud of you being back on the veggie-track and of course this topic is very important to me :-) If you have any questions or need some support, please email me :-) I would love to help!

  12. oh no, I wrote a huge reply yesterday but it seems to be gone :( Being busy today, I'll just post a helpful link about nutrition. You should definately eat a lot of iron-rich food because that's important for not becoming anemic. http://www.peta2.de/naehrwerttabelle If you have any questions or need recipes please get in touch. I would love to help and it's really great you are a vegetarian again!

  13. That´s very strange, because I have seen it online here yesterday. Anyway I still got it saved in the backend for everyone to read here:
